Carrington Heliotrope

Elegant cufflinks featuring fiery bloodstones with red accents reminiscent of embers in a dark bed of ashes.  These alluring gemstones are hand-set in gold bezels with classic laurel leaves and berries along the edges.  Created by Carrington and Co. in 14kt gold circa 1910.

The backs of the cufflinks are as finely handcrafted as the fronts.  Note the sturdy bezels that hold the heliotropes and the strong cross bars and brackets that secure the cufflinks on the cuff.  The backs are open allowing light to pass through the opaque heliotropes like a miniature stained glass windows when held up to a strong light source.

Heliotrope, also known as "bloodstone," is a beautiful variety of quartz with fiery red spots of iron oxide embedded in dark green jasper.  Heliotrope, along with other alluring varieties of quartz such as moss agate, carnelian and citrine, was often featured in the gentleman's jewelry of the early 1900s.
