Garnet and Pearl StickpinAlling Egyptian Revival! |
The arts and architecture of ancient Egypt often inspired jewelry makers of the early 1900s. This stickpin with a fiery garnet and luminous pearl (perhaps the sun and the moon) set in a flowing, geometric design is a wonderful example. The gold surfaces glow with a matte finish that adds to the sense of ancient mystique. Created by Alling & Company in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
This beautifully crafted stickpin would have pleased the Pharaohs. The maker's mark for Alling & Company, a shamrock with a "14" and an "A" in the petals, is stamped on the reverse in the upper right (see photograph below). Alling & Company was a maker of fine stickpins, cufflinks and other jewels based in Newark, New Jersey. The firm created jewels for Tiffany & Company, Starr & Marcus, and other leading jewelers from 1843 to 1915. Cost: Although this elegant stickpin has sold, you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery. |
