Art Deco cufflinks with rich blue sapphires and
sparkling faceted diamonds set against a frosty platinum
background. The gem-set centers are surrounded by polished
platinum borders decorated with stylized Art Deco motifs.
These elegant cufflinks were created in 14kt gold and platinum
during the Jazz Age of the 1920s. The cufflinks were crafted with 14kt white gold backs supporting a layer of platinum on top. On the cross bars "14K" is stamped for the purity of the gold and the backs are stamped "PLAT. TOP" indicating the top surface of platinum. This style of platinum-topped cufflink was popular in the 1920s and 1930s because of platinum's brightness, costliness and reputation for sophisticated elegance.  Name: Sapphires and Diamonds
Elegant cufflinks set with diamonds and
sapphires often reflect the late Victorian belief that
diamonds should only be worn after dark. In
theory, the cufflinks would be worn with the
sapphires facing outward during the day and the diamonds
facing inward. In the evening the order of wear
would be reversed with the diamonds facing
outward. In practice, personal taste and
individual style more likely determined whether the
diamonds or the sapphires were displayed at any given
time. An adventurous dresser might even mix and
match!
