Victorian Four-Leaf Clover BroochClover and Pearls! |
A beautifully enameled Victorian lucky clover brooch. The edges of the petals and stem are gold and set with small graduated pearls. A larger pearl is set in the center and a second rests on a petal like a small dew drop. Created by Bippart, Griscom & Osborn in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
The reverse of the brooch is just is as nicely crafted as the front. A radial framework supports the gold petals and helps protect the detailed enamel work on the front. The sturdy, careful construction of the brooch is why it has survived so beautifully for over 100 years. The brooch is secured with a sturdy pin stem and transitional safety clasp (circa 1900). A chatelaine hook on the lower petal allows a watch or other pendant to be suspended below the brooch.
The reverse of the upper petal is stamped "14K" for the purity of the gold. To the right of the gold mark is the maker's mark of Bippart, Griscom & Osborn - a flaming torch lying horizontally. This jewelry maker created fine gold and platinum jewelry during the late 1800s and early decades of the 20th century. Name: Clover and Pearls |
