![]() Elegant Amethyst Cufflinks![]() Carter Amethysts |
Elegant amethysts set in yellow gold
bean back cufflinks. The antique gold has a slight ruddy
blush that plays beautifully against the regal purple hues of
the gemstones. Created by Carter, Howe & Co. in 14kt
gold, circa 1900.
![]() These finely crafted cufflinks are secured on the cuff with sturdy curved bridges and bean backs. The bean backs are hand-engraved in flowing Victorian script with the initials of the original owner, "F.C.S."
![]() The bridges are stamped with the maker's mark of Carter, Howe & Co. (an arrowhead enclosing a small "C"). Carter, Howe (later Carter, Gough) was a noted maker of fine cufflinks, stickpins and other jewels. The firm was founded in 1841 and created beautiful jewelry for nearly 100 years, finally closing its doors during the economic depression of the early 1930s.
