Platinum and Pearl Tuxedo Set
Carter Dress Set
| The early decades of the last century were a
time of elegant cufflinks and striking tuxedo and dress
sets. This wonderful Art Deco tuxedo set features
cufflinks and shirt studs with reeded platinum borders
surrounding mother-of-pearl centers. Crafted in 14kt gold
and platinum, circa 1925.
Complementing the cufflinks are three shirt studs (one pictured above). Like the cufflinks, the studs are crafted in platinum and 14kt gold with Mother of Pearl centers surrounded by reeded platinum borders.
As with all fine jewels, you should examine cufflinks closely from every direction. The backs of these cufflinks are crafted in 14kt yellow gold. You can see the maker's attention to detail in the mirror-like finish, the crisp edges, and the sturdy brackets and cross bars that secure the links. Please excuse the reflections from our camera.
This dress set was crafted by the jewelry firm Carter, Gough & Company, makers of fine gold and platinum jewelry during the first decades of the last century. The maker's mark for Carter, Gough - a small arrowhead surrounding the letter "C" - is visible on the back of each of the cufflinks and shirt studs. To the left of the maker's mark are the precious metal marks for the purity of the gold and platinum.
