Onyx and Pearl Dress Set

A beautiful example of Art Deco design.  Classic black onyx centers and white pearls surrounded by elegant platinum borders.  The ideal dress set for "Putting on the Ritz."  Crafted in platinum and 14t gold,  circa 1930.

This dress set was created by L.E. Garrigus & Co., a maker of fine gold and platinum cufflinks and other jewels during the first half of the last century.  Garrigus cufflinks were sold by Tiffany & Company and other fine jewelers.

Complementing the cufflinks are three shirt studs and four vest buttons.  The shirt studs and vest buttons repeat the theme of platinum, onyx and pearls.  The tops of the shirt studs measure 1/4" along each side.  The vest buttons are just under 1/2", slightly smaller than the cufflinks.

As with all fine jewels,  you should examine the backs of cufflinks as closely as the fronts.  The reverse of these cufflinks are beautifully crafted in 14kt yellow gold polished to a mirror-like finish.  Also note the maker's attention to detail and the sturdy brackets and cross bars that secure these cufflinks.

The backs of the cufflinks, shirt studs and vest buttons are marked with a double-ended scroll beneath "14K", the maker's mark for L.E. Garrigus & Co.  The reverse of the cufflinks are also marked "PLAT & GOLD" indicating the precious metals.

As a final touch the sturdy cross bars of the cufflinks repeat the
scrolling Garrigus maker's mark.
