Sapphire and Diamond Cufflinks

The Age of the Machine and the bold designs of the Normandie ocean liner and Manhattan's Chrysler Building. The exuberant, sleek, streamlined designs of the 1920s and 1930s were known as "Art Moderne." (The term "Art Deco" was not adopted until the 1960s.)
These stylish cufflinks are a wonderful example of Art Moderne design. Crafted in 14kt gold, they feature bold white gold borders surrounding yellow gold centers of radiating circles. At the center of the circles are set a sparkling blue sapphire and white diamond.
 The rear of the cufflinks are crafted in 14kt yellow gold with sturdy brackets and cross bars. The backs are nicely finished with a smooth mirror-like polish and are engraved with the initials ("GS") of the original owner.
 The cross bars are stamped with "14K" and the maker's hallmark. The hallmark (pictured above) is similar to a child's top or ice cream cone with an inscribed "14". This is the hallmark of Allsopp & Sons, a maker of fine platinum and gold jewelry during the 1920s and 1930s.
