Laurel Wreath and Opal StickpinLaurels and Opal |
A triumphant golden laurel wreath frames an
iridescent, sparkling opal. The wreath is beautifully
sculpted in the neoclassical taste of the late 1800s. A
small diamond is set in the wreath's base. Created by
Whiteside & Blank in 14kt gold, circa 1900.
Whiteside & Blank was a maker of finely crafted stickpins and brooches during the early years of the last century. Although unsigned, this elegant stickpin is attributed to Whiteside & Blank based on the level of craftsmanship and similar jewels created by the firm. On the reverse of the stickpin the pin stem is anchored with a sturdy collet (see photo below). The solid back of the wreath provides a strong framework to support and protect the opal. On the right of the back "14K" is stamped for the purity of the gold. Cost: Although this elegant stickpin has sold, you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery. |
