Golden Sculpture of Atlas

Atlas stickpin. (J9475)

Atlas and the Pillars of Hercules

Atlas carries the weight of the heavens on his shoulders with a little help from the Pillars of Hercules.  Above is a heavenly pediment rising from Atlas's weary shoulders.  This finely detailed stickpin is a miniature work of sculpture created in 14kt gold circa 1910.

In Greek mythology Atlas was condemned by Zeus to hold up the heavens through eternity after Atlas lead the Titans in their unsuccessful war against the Olympians.  In some accounts Hercules later took pity on Atlas and built two pillars to ease his burden.

The stickpin is finely crafted with a sturdy pin stem and solid gold back.  The reverse is stamped beneath the pin stem with the maker's mark "HK&S" and "14K" for the purity of the gold.  (see photo below)

Cost:  Although this elegant stickpin has sold,  you will find many more
fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery.

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 1/2" long and the top measures just over 5/8" by 3/8".  It weighs 3.4 grams.
