Brassler Bloodstone Stickpin

Heliotrope Scarab

Hans Brassler's imaginative interpretation of a winged scarab with a heliotrope (bloodstone) body  set in a finely crafted gold frame.  The goldwork evokes the scarab's backward sweeping wings and two rear legs meeting below.  Created in 14kt gold,  circa 1910.

Brassler was an imaginative jeweler who created wonderful stickpins and other small jewels that are best described as miniature works of art.  He found inspiration in nature, fantasy and ancient cultures to create unique jewels influenced by the historic revival, Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles of the day.

This stickpin is finely crafted with a strong gold pin stem and sturdy frame to cradle the heliotrope.  The maker's mark of The Brassler Company, an oval surrounding "14B" is stamped on the lower reverse beneath the pin stem (photo below).

Cost:  $625

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 11/16" long and weighs 3.1 grams.  The scarab measures just under  3/4" by just over 1/2".
