Brassler Jade Stickpin Jade and Pearl |
| A verdant jade cabochon plays beautifully with
the bright white luminance of a small pearl. The jade is
set in a wreath of golden laurel leaves framed by dramatic
volutes that rise like the wings of a fantastic creature.
Created by Hans Brassler in 14kt gold, circa 1910.
Brassler was a gifted jewelry designer and goldsmith who in the early 1900s created stickpins that can only be described as miniature works of art. He found inspiration in nature, ancient cultures and his own fertile imagination to create striking jewels that often borrow motifs from the Art Nouveau, Beaux Arts and Art Deco styles. This stickpin is finely crafted with a strong gold pin stem and sturdy frame to cradle the jade cabochon. The maker's mark of The Brassler Company "(14B" in a double oval) is stamped on the upper left of the reverse (see photo below).  Hans Brassler was known for the originality and artistry of his jewelry designs. Born in Germany, he studied jewelry design at the Academie Julian in Paris and is reported to have earned a gold medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle. He emigrated to the United States in 1902 and worked with Tiffany & Company for a period before founding his own firm in 1909. At The Brassler Company he served as artistic director for about six years during which time he created an extraordinary collection of strikingly imaginative jewels. |
