Hans Brassler medieval amethyst stickpin. (SP9421)

Medieval Amethyst

A faceted amethyst set in a distinctive gold frame embellished with medieval and heraldic elements.  This regal stickpin was created by Hans Brassler in 14kt gold, circa 1910.

The medieval design of the front is repeated on the reverse of the pin - a nice touch found on some of Brassler's finer stickpins. (see photo below)

Hans Brassler was an imaginative jeweler, artist and designer who created wearable works of art with gemstones and gold.   He found inspiration for his creations in distant and ancient cultures, natural and organic forms, and his own fertile imagination.  The Brassler maker's mark is stamped on the lower reverse of the stickpin beneath the pin stem.

Cost:  $465

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is 2 1/2" long and the top measures 11/16" tall by 1/2" wide.  It weighs 2.1 grams.

Hans Brassler was known for the originality and artistry of his jewelry designs.  Born in Germany,  he studied jewelry design at the Academie Julian in Paris and is reported to have earned or shared in a gold medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle.  He emigrated to the United States in 1902 and worked with Tiffany & Company for a period before founding his own firm, The Brassler Company, in 1909.  Brassler served as artistic director for about six years during which time he created an extraordinary collection of  elegant jewels.  His daughter, Margaret Brassler Kane, is the noted 20th century sculptor.
