Victorian Moonstone Stickpin Claw and Moonstone |
| A moonstone orb softly glows as if a moonbeam
is trapped inside. The gemstone is held by a finely
sculpted claw with sharp talons and realistic scales.
This elegant stickpin was created by an unknown maker in 14kt
gold in the years around 1900. During the final decades of the Victorian era there was a growing fascination with dragons, serpents and other fantastic creatures which was often expressed in the jewels of the period. Among the more intriguing examples were stickpins with fierce claws clutching gemstone orbs.
