Art Deco CufflinksWinter Jazz! |
Radiant checkerboard centers surrounded by bold Jazz Age borders of stylized palmettes, maze-like meanders and classical triglyphs. These Art Deco cufflinks glimmer with the frosty elegance of icicles glittering in the early morning sun. Created in 14kt gold, circa 1925.
Fine cufflinks are beautiful on all sides. The backs of these cufflinks are beautifully crafted in 14kt yellow gold polished to a mirror-like finish - please excuse the shadowy reflections from my camera. Note the sturdy brackets and decorative winged bridges that secure these cufflinks on the cuff. In creating these cufflinks the maker took as much care with the hidden parts of the cufflinks as he did with the visible parts.
The jazzy design of these cufflinks and distinctive winged bridges indicate that they were created by Jacob Hookaylo, a Russian emigré who created elegant cufflinks and other jewels during the 1920s and 1930s. The Hookaylo workshop, based in Newark, New Jersey, created beautiful cufflinks that are miniature icons of Art Deco style and elegance.
