Winged Caduceus Stickpin

Antique serpent and wings stickpin. (J9003)

Wings of Mercury

Mercury, messenger of the gods of ancient Greece, carried a staff with fleet wings and entwined snakes.  In addition to his duties as a divine messenger, Mercury also served as the god of commerce, sports, thieves and trickery.  This stickpin features finely detailed wings framing a single snake twisting downward from a small luminous pearl.   Crafted in 14kt gold,  circa 1900.

The reverse of the stickpin (photo below) is solidly crafted to protect the richly detailed design and pearl.  The maker's mark of H.A. Kirby (a small Maltese cross) and "14K" are stamped on the upper pin stem.  H.A. Kirby was a jewelry maker based in Providence, Rhode Island who created fine stickpins, cufflinks and other jewels during the late 19th century and early 20th century.

Cost:  $385

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin is  2 9/16" long and weighs 2.1 grams.  The top measures just over  1/2" tall by  7/16" wide.
