Amethyst and Pearl Brooch

Hans Brassler brooch set with amethyst and pearls. (J9140)

Brassler Amethyst and Pearls

A beautiful brooch set with a rich purple amethyst and luminous pearls.  This finely designed and sculpted jewel was created by Hans Brassler, an imaginative jeweler who worked in the early 20th century.  Finely crafted in 14kt gold, circa 1910.

The reverse of the brooch is also finely crafted.  Note the elegant simplicity of the design and sturdiness of the construction - both signatures of Brassler's work.  The strong pin stem and early safety clasp reflect the care taken in creating the jewel.

Brassler was an imaginative jeweler/goldsmith who for a few years in the early 20th century created a wonderful collection of small jewels.  His work is known for its striking originality and unexcelled craftsmanship.  The maker's mark of the Brassler workshop - "14B" inside a double oval - is stamped on the top of the safety clasp.

This brooch records a small bit of history.  The upper back is engraved "D.C. to H.B.D. 6.3'11".  This is likely a sentiment from the original giver of the brooch to the recipient on an important day (June 3, 1911) they shared.
