Carrington Moss Agate CufflinksCarrington Moss Agate |
Moss agates with a tangle of green inclusions
reminiscent of drifting seaweed or an overgrown pine
forest. The mesmerizing agates are set in gold bezels
embellished with classic laurel leaf and berry edges.
Created by Carrington and Co. in 14kt gold, circa 1910.
The backs of the cufflinks are finely handcrafted. Note the sturdy bezels that hold the agates and the strong cross bars and brackets that secure the cufflinks on the cuff. The backs are open to allow light to pass through the agates when held up to a window or worn on a lighter cuff. Moss agate is a fine-grained variety of quartz prized for its dramatic green inclusions. This striking gemstone was a favorite among the makers and wearers of gentlemen's accessories during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The maker's mark of Carrington & Company
(a squared "C"
enclosing "14") is stamped on the crossbars.
