Moss Agate and Gold Cufflinks

Moss Agate!

Distinctive cufflinks featuring beautiful Moss Agates set in bright yellow gold.  These cufflinks were created by one of the preeminent makers of fine cufflinks and dress sets during the early 1900s, Carter, Howe & Company.  Crafted in 14t gold,  circa 1910.

The Moss Agates are beautiful examples giving the appearance of green seaweed floating in crystal, clear water.  Moss Agate is an intriguing variety of Chalcedony (fine grained quartz) with striking green inclusions.  The gem was a favorite among jewelry makers and consumers during the decades around 1900.

One of the nice features of the cufflinks is that the Moss Agates are backed with iridescent Mother of Pearl.  The creamy white of the Mother of Pearl beautifully highlights the mossy green pattern of the Agates.

As with all fine jewels,  you should examine cufflinks closely from all direction.  The backs of these cufflinks are crafted in brightly polished 14kt yellow gold.  You can see the maker's attention to detail in the mirror-like finish,  the crisp edges,  and the sturdy brackets and cross bars that secure the links.

The cross bars are stamped with the maker's mark of Carter, Howe & Company (later Carter, Gough & Co.),  creators of fine gold and platinum jewelry during the first decades of the last century.  The maker's mark is a small arrowhead surrounding the letter "C".  To the left of the maker's mark is the gold purity mark ("14K") for 14kt gold.
