Serpent and the Pearl

Victorian stickpin with sea serpent clutching a pearl. (J4805) The late Victorians loved whimsical jewels with fantastic creatures.  This Victorian stickpin features a wonderful winged sea serpent clutching a pearl.

The stickpin is beautifully crafted in 14kt gold and dates from around 1900.  The serpent is animated with a fierce expression and many rich details.  Truly a miniature work of art.

Cost:  Although this elegant stickpin has sold,  you will find many more fine stickpins in the Antique Stickpin Gallery.

Measurements:  This 14kt gold stickpin measures  2.25"
in length.  The sea serpent is just over  0.6"  tall.

The back of the stickpin is pictured below.  You can see that the sea serpent is solidly cast,  creating a jewel that will last for at least another hundred years.

The back is marked  "14K"  and  "L & A"  in a series of links.  This is the hallmark of the firm Link & Angell which was based in Newark,  New Jersey circa 1900.
